In his speech on April 2, 1917, Woodrow Wilson intended to ask the United States Congress to declare war on Germany. He believed that the U.S. needed to enter World War I in order to make the world "safe for democracy" and to ensure peace and security for future generations. Wilson saw the war as a moral imperative and felt that the U.S. had a duty to help shape the post-war world order. **

The Treaty of Versailles and Woodrow Wilson's 14 Points Plan were both attempts to address the aftermath of World War I. However, they differed in their approach and goals. The Treaty of Versailles was more punitive towards Germany, imposing heavy reparations and territorial losses, while Wilson's 14 Points Plan aimed for a more balanced and just peace settlement, emphasizing principles such as self-determination and the creation of a League of Nations to prevent future conflicts. Overall, the Treaty of Versailles is often criticized for being too harsh and contributing to the rise of resentment in Germany, leading to World War II, while Wilson's 14 Points Plan is seen as a more idealistic and forward-thinking vision for international relations. **
